Streaming Updates

Hey all!

I was going over my streaming schedule for the next month or so, and of course things have to change due to releases and the like.

First, I’m still going to stream Monday-Thursday 8-10pm PST, weather/health permitting. I’m really trying to get better about it, so I’m doing my best to get ahead of everything, so that I’m not stressing by 7, which is usually the cause for me cancelling a stream.

This Friday was supposed to be my second book stream of the month. I’d already planned on pushing it a week due to Owlcrate’s shipping being delayed. However, Owlcrate announced that the box isn’t shipping until February 24-26, which would be right around the date for the next stream. So, instead, this Friday I’ll be doing another gaming stream, and we will be delaying the book stream until the box arrives. I’ll announce it when I have an idea of when the box is coming. It’s totally possible that I may have to shift the book streams a week across the board. But right now it’s up in the air.

As for upcoming games, we should be finishing up with Kingdom Hearts II by Thursday the 18th. Next up with be What Remains of Edith Finch, which will be next Monday. It’s a short game, but I have plans for Friday night (Wandavision!), so I only have the normal bonus time to do the Friday stream. If you haven’t heard anything about this game, all I will say that it’s one of the best and well written games I’ve played in a while. I just played it on Xbox One and loved every second of it.

After that, I’m hoping to replay The Avengers. Now, I know I said that Kingdom Hearts III was next. However, I really want to play the new DLC when it drops on March 18th, so I figured that replaying Avengers would be fun. Plus everyone gets to see me suck at playing certain characters (re: THOR).

I don’t honestly think it will take a month to play through The Avengers and the DLC. If we have extra time before the DLC drops, there’s a puzzle game called The Gardens Between that we might give a play at. Another short puzzle game that also has a beautiful story, told in silence.

As for this Friday’s bonus stream, I’ll be playing this wonderful puzzle game called Glass Masquerade. It’s your standard puzzle game, with all the pieces being stain glass and weirdly shaped. I’ve already beaten the game before, so this is just going to be a casual play.

So, this week’s stream schedule looks like this: (2/16-2/19)

  • Tuesday (8pm): Kingdom Hearts II
  • Wednesday (8pm): Kingdom Hearts II
  • Thursday (8pm): Kingdom Hearts II – hopefully finale
  • Friday (4pm): Glass Masquerade [casual]

Next week’s schedule is shaping up as well: (2/22-2/26)

  • Monday (8pm): What Remains of Edith Finch
  • Tuesday (8pm): The Avengers
  • Wednesday (8pm): The Avengers
  • Thursday (8pm): The Avengers

Should Owlcrate arrive on February 26th, we will go ahead and do the book stream. Otherwise, we will have a bonus unplanned stream as soon as it arrives.

As for Kingdom Hearts III, as soo as the Avengers DLC is taken care of, I’ll be jumping into it. I’m only holding off because of Avengers, and I was talking it up because I totally forgot that the second DLC was announced. That’s my mistake and on me.

So yeah, here’s the quick update. If there are some cool games that drop before March 18th, than things might get a little messy. We shall see what comes next.

(And just in case anyone is wondering, I’m going to watch the Nintendo direct a bit late today so that I can attempt to record my reactions. If the video doesn’t completely suck, I’ll throw the reaction video up on YouTube. We shall see.)

Until next time!

Check In – My Gaming Backburner

So, I’m taking a quick break from Febuwhump, because I remembered that I haven’t written today’s post yet. Whoops!

I was looking back on some of my previous posts, and realized I should revisit a post from the beginning of Blogtober, specifically October 3, 2020.

At the time, this was my gaming backburner games:

  • Concrete Genie
  • Kingdom Hearts II ReMind DLC
  • Marvel’s Avengers
  • Broken Age
  • Erica
  • Life is Strange 2
  • Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order
  • Persona 5/Persona 5 Royal
  • Final Fantasy XV
  • Lego Star Wars: The Force Awakens

Well. Looking over this list, it’s kinda surprising what is still there. So let me break it down a bit more.

  • Concrete Genie – I’ve started this, but stopped for another game. I’m holding off to replay and finish it on stream in the next couple months. Now, I will say that I absolutely loved the art style and what I’ve already seen from the game. I cannot wait to return to it soon.
  • Kingdom Hearts III ReMind DLC – I’m finishing up Kingdom Hearts II on stream right now. Once that, and two quick games, are completed, I’m doing a second playthrough of KHIII with ReMind on stream. This is absolutely important to me to play.
  • Marvel’s Avengers – “Finished”. I completed the main story in mid-December. It’s fine, but nothing to write home about. I’m tempted to hate-play it again on stream, but probably once I get a following. Maybe if I hit fifty followers. I do want to play the Kate Bishop DLC at some point but it’s not a priority.
  • Broken Age – Haven’t touched yet. Need to make this a priority one of these days.
  • Erica – I’m halfway through and bored out of my skull. It’s a FMV, and every play through takes about two hours long. But there isn’t a skip scene button. Watching the same scene over and over again is a great way to make me not want to play.
  • Life is Strange 2 – Just haven’t played yet. Haven’t really wanted to to it yet.
  • Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order – On the replay list. Still haven’t touched it yet since Thanksgiving 2019.
  • Persona 5/Persona 5 Royal – I was hoping to play this during February, but thanks to Febuwhump I just don’t have the time to dedicate to it. I may wait until March to return to this. I won’t be playing it on stream, only because I have a tight streaming schedule, and playing it on stream would feel too segmented.
  • Final Fantasy XV – Started it and just didn’t get hooked. I’ll get back to it one day. Maybe, maybe not. No offence to any fans of FFXV, it’s just not for me right now.
  • Lego Star Wars: The Force Awakens – Done, finished, packed away.

So, yeah. After nearly four months, I’ve completed one game, mostly finished another, started and paused two, and discarded one. And then there are some I haven’t touched.

As of today, I’ve added a few games that I want to play soon. This includes Tell Me Why (Xbox One), The Gardens Between (PS4 for Stream), What Remains of Edith Finch (PS4 for Stream), Rush: A Disney Pixar Adventure (Xbox Game Pass), and Spider-Man: Miles Morales (PS4). Also on this list are some Xbox 360 Lego games that I’m slowly working on. And there’s always new games being added, thanks to people making so many indie games lately.

I am kinda embarrassed when I look back at the list from October and see all the things I never played, even though I’ve wanted to. I really need to just sit down and knock some out. March can’t come fast enough at this point. I love writing, but right now I feel like to take a quick break. We shall see.

Until next time!

Two Weeks of Streaming: How Goes It?

How goes it? Well, not perfectly.

Let me be honest, this isn’t how I wanted to start off in 2021 streaming. But that’s how it goes.

I knew jumping in to streaming, and not being a fan of the big Triple-A titles (Fortnight, Among Us, COD, and so many others) meant that breaking in would be difficult. But I’m having fun and that’s what matters, right?

But let’s go back to the Tuesday before last, my first planned stream.

I started streaming a few minutes late, but that was because I was having some connection issues with my sound not coming through my headphones. It’s something that I’ve had problems in the past with, and I wasn’t about to not play any sort of game without dealing with it. I’d say the stream went well, though I didn’t get anyone into chat. The only problem was that in the final half hour, I kept on having connection issues, and I disconnected twice.

I was playing an indie game that I fell in love with a few years ago called Lili: Child of Geos. It’s a fun little game that deals with a young teen girl going to an island to collect flowers for research, and becoming involved with saving the creatures of the island from an evil dictator of a Mayor. I will say that there are some issues with some of the text, as there are some hilarious grammatical issues. But it’s a quick little game that I completed on stream in four hours total.

Wednesday was about the same. Finished off Lili and talked about my other streaming plans. I didn’t have any connection issues, which was good. And I was hopeful for the future.

On Thursday, I started a different game, one that I think is a lot of fun. Well, mostly because I could make social distencing comments and complain about all the people going to Disney World. I began Disneyland Adventures. The game is basically collectathon in Disneyland as seen in 2011, minus any Star Wars, Marvel, or Indiana Jones references. Which makes a lot of sense, because licensing. I didn’t get too far into the game, only because it is a surprisingly long game for being a kids game. But I’m okay with that.

I didn’t stream that Friday, but I did start my planned stream on Saturday. I began playing through Lego Batman: The Video Game, which was my first time touching the game. I got through the first chapter of the Hero story (five chapters) before signing off because of a major headache. I also cancelled my planned Sunday stream because of the same reason.

Last Tuesday and Wednesday’s streams were cancelled as well. Tuesday was because of high winds in my city, which makes having power kind of a gamble (California please bury your powerlines you cowards). I didn’t want to stream only to have it die ten minutes in. And yeah, my power did flicker a few times, so I think it was the right move. Wednesday, my family was watching the Inauguration and all the festivities surrounding it.

Last Thursday, I jumped back into Disneyland Adventures and made some decisions regarding how far into the game I was planning on going (hint, pretty far actually). I had a few funny moments, basically back to back, and I made my first clips from a stream because of them.

On Friday, I did a bonus stream to make up for missing the beginning of the week. On stream, I unboxed January 2021’s Owlcrate, which was a lot of fun to do, as well discussed my top books of 2020 and what books are on my 2021 reading list. Basically a stripped down version of the posts I wrote up for Friday and Monday. And honestly, it was a lot of fun. I got to have way too much fun making changes to what I put on Goodreads, which is something I’d wanted to go into on my 2020 Reading Wrap-up post, but I ran out of time. Unfortunately, the stream ended abruptly, as a certain someone in this house that isn’t my mother decided that downloading a bunch of stuff and crashed the internet.

And then…

I gave up on weekend streaming. There’s just too much that my family does on weekends, that taking the afternoon to stream is just not feasable. But I’m not sure if I’ll stream during the evenings, so I’m not offically changing the schedule yet.

And finally, to round out two weeks, I streamed last night. I continued with my playthrough of Disneyland Adventures. I think I’m two weekday streams away from finishing, maybe three. I keep forgetting just how long the “story mode” of the game is, and I added the additional collectables that half the character have at the end of their adventures. I am, at least, getting most of the collectables off stream. I’m just not completing the quests until I’m on camera.

So, what have I discovered?

Well, my decision to play some not so popular games wasn’t my best idea. There’s just not enough people looking for those games to tune in. Which is kind of an issue, because I’m just not really into most of the “big games”. No offense to anyone who likes them, it’s just not my thing. I may go ahead and play through some games I’ve already played through again, such as Marvel’s Spider-man and Bugsnax. I’m also planning on playing Kingdom Hearts on Game Pass, because why not right?

I did decide that I wouldn’t play any new Lego games on stream (barring Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga, because I really want to go ahead and do the first playthrough live. I also am toying with playing through some of the Lego Dimensions Adventure Worlds on stream, just no the actual story. I’m not saying I’m going to do it, just thinking about it.

I also, as I mentioned above, am very much debating not doing afternoon streams on weekends, or limiting it to one day instead of both. I’m not making any promises just yet, but I’ll update the schedule as I decide.

One thing I want to continue to do is having a monthly book stream, unboxing Owlcrate and whatnot. It had a lot of fun with tat. And I guess I’ll have to discuss the new Shadow and Bone show once that starts in April. Which also means I need to read those damn books… Yikes.

I am having fun, even if I’m just talking to the void. Which is something really important to me. I don’t really want to do something that I don’t enjoy.

There’s still a lot for me to do, including making a “stream starting soon” graphic, and a different layout for my book streams. But I have time for that.

For now, I’m getting ready for tonight’s stream, and tomorrow’s, and what the future holds.

Until next time!

I’m Streaming Again!

It’s been months since I streamed on Twitch. Serious, I think it was July the last time I clicked “start stream.”

Last night was my first night back, just as I planned. I was hoping to stream in the afternoon, but I quickly realized that wasn’t possible. I would only have an hour to an hour and a half to stream in the afternoons during the week, so I decided to push it to the evening.

Now, I didn’t have any viewers, but I’m okay with that. I know that it’s hard to take off. But I’m glad that I tried anyway.

I started the game Lili: Child of Geos, an indie title that was released a few years ago, that never really got any love. I happened to find it on a list of easy platinums back in late 2018. It seemed cute, so I gave it a shot, and fell in love with it. I wanted to play something that I knew, but that wasn’t overplayed on Twitch. Unfortunately, I went for something that doesn’t get any love.

But that’s ok, because I just wanted to get into the swing of things. So I went ahead and streamed for about an hour and forty five minutes. I got through half of the game, which is exactly what I planned.

I had a lot of fun taking the time to explain different aspects of the game, and just why I liked it. I made a point to explain the different things that made playing it fun, but also some of the choices that made it a problem. But it’s a fun game none the less.

The only real downside to last night (barring the fact that I was basically talking to myself the entire time) was that I lost connection twice. It happens, so I didn’t get mad about it, but it was annoying to have to pause and wait and see if the connection would reestablish itself, or if I would have to drop the stream and jump back in.

I plan on finishing the main storyline tonight at 8PM PST. It should only take two hours, since I did part of the third part of the story last night by accident. By that, I mean I was talking and the enemies, the Spirits, kept interrupting me, so I had to keep beating them. I’m not planning on going for 100%, only because it takes so damn long with two objectives (smash 500 pots and collect 1000 flowers). For context, I was smashing and collecting all stream, and I’m not even a fourth of the way there on either count.

My schedule for this week and next (including last night, because it was just easier to copy and paste it) currently planned to be:

Monday: Off
Tuesday: Lili: Child of Geos Part One
Wednesday: Lili: Child of Geos Part Two
Thursday: Disneyland Adventures Part One
Friday: Off
Saturday: Lego City Undercover or Lego Batman Part One
Sunday: Lego City Undercover or Lego Batman Part Two

Monday: Off
Tuesday: Disneyland Adventures Part Two
Wednesday: Disneyland Adventures Part Three
Thursday: Disneyland Adventures Part Four
Friday: Off
Saturday: Lego City Undercover or Lego Batman Part Three
Sunday: Lego City Undercover or Lego Batman Part Four

I want to limit playing Lego games on my channel to weekends, where I can dedicate a good chunk of time playing them. The reason I’m not sure which Lego game I’m going to play is because I ordered the Xbox 360 version of Batman, and it just depends on whether it arrives on time, and if my Xbox One will play it (which it should). If it is delayed, I’m gonna play through the story of Lego City Undercover and perhaps show off the full game, depending on time.

So, yeah, I’m back to streaming again on Twitch! At least for the next two weeks. I’m looking into streaming on Youtube out of curiosity, mostly because Twitch is so saturated. Honestly, this is when I kinda wish there was a new streaming service so I could jump in, but it is what it is. I’m totally cool with it.

If you want to pop in, I’ll be streaming at https://www.twitch.tv/remembermenever/ at 8PM tonight!

Until next time!

My Final Games of the Year + My Favorite Games of 2020 – Blogmas!

It’s been a crazy year in gaming. Well, it’s been a crazy year, full stop, but you get what I mean. 2020 has proved to be a challenge in many ways.

This year, I’ve spent a good amount of time playing games as a way to keep my sanity, especially after April and my quitting my job (still one of my best decisions of 2020). Since it’s the end of the year, I wanted to do a quick wrap up, including the final few games I’ve been playing, and what I consider my favorite games of 2020.

Just looking back on my list of games I’ve completed this year, I’ve kinda run the gambit. I played some AAA games (including finally playing Final Fantasy XV and giving Persona 5 Royal some love, I’ll get back to that later), some really good indies (Concrete Genie is spectacular, AER was a great replay, and I have a quiet love for Red Bow), and a lot of vaporware. A LOT of vaporware. I didn’t realize just how much until I typed it all out last night.

I also played like eighteen Lego games. So, yeah.

The last two months have been dedicated to restarting Animal Crossing: New Horizons and dragging myself through Marvel’s Avengers, plus a few other quick titles. Let me break it down.

I restarted Animal Crossing simply because I was just too frustrated with how I’d set up my island back in March, and I felt like it would take weeks to fix it. Now I’m about a month into this restart, and I have a small amount of regret, only because I think I could have make my original island work. Though I do love that I called my new island “AllAndMore”, because it’s not like I’m obsessed with The Old Guard or something.

As for Marvel’s Avengers… I went into this knowing that I was just planning on playing the story and that’s it. And the story was… fine. Nothing legendary, nothing worthy of awards, but just fine. I liked Kamala Khan, I liked the inclusion of chosen characters, but it really felt rushed. Honestly, there was just a lot missing (including the Barton-sized hole in the story). I haven’t played through the new Kate Bishop DLC, but I’ll probably give it a quick playthrough. I’m not going to be aiming for the Platinum on this one, simply because I’m not putting 100+ hours into this game. It’s not worth it.

There’s a little indie game called AER: Memories of Old that came out a few years ago. It’s one of those games where you can figure out most everything because of the symbolism, but it’s still a quick three hour game. I played it in 2018, and again last night. I just needed something simple to break the hold Avengers had over me.

The last “game” on my list is an FMV interactive film video game called Erica. It’s a choose your own adventure type story that had the makings of a pretty good story, but I feel like somewhere someone made a mistake in the coding. Several of the clips directly following the player making a choice feel disjointed, as if the wrong clip was being played. I actually enjoyed the story up until the midpoint, where things just stopped making logical sense. This is a game that takes six full playthroughs that are about two hours long each, but feel much longer, as you can’t skip scenes you’ve already seen. That is an unfortunate choice by the developers, as most FMV games let you skip those scenes, making the games a bit more… user friendly. It’s really not worth the playthrough.

As for my favorite games of 2020…

Since several of the games I played this year aren’t actually from 2020, I’m not going to make a ranking. Just run through some of my favorites. It really wouldn’t be fair. That’s what I get for not playing the newest games out, especially since they aren’t games I really want to play…

One of the main games on my list for this year is Pokémon Sword. I didn’t really talk about it all that much, but I really enjoyed this new Pokémon game. It actually got me back into the franchise, which I didn’t think would be possible. I’ve played through the Isle of Armor DLC and thought that the story there dragged a little, but not terribly. The character customization was probably one of my favorite things about this one. I sunk about 50 hours into this, and I really want to get back to it in the new year.

I restarted my Persona 5 playthrough (which was unintentionally ruined by my little cousin late last year) with Persona 5 Royal, and wow am I more in with love with this game then I was last year. I haven’t even reached the new content yet, and I’m already in love with all the little changes. And yes, I do love Kasumi. My goal for 2021 is to complete the story for this, as it’s criminal that I haven’t finished it just yet.

A game that outright surprised me is Glass Masquerade 2: Illusions. It’s just a puzzle game, but I really enjoyed the challenge of this one. All the puzzles are stained glass, and absolutely beautiful. I really want to play this one again. Maybe if I can ever get my Twitch channel back up an running (all the issues are on my end, I swear), I’ll give this one another playthrough, as well as the first game.

There should be no surprise that a Lego game lands on my favorite games list. In this case, that would be Lego Dimensions. I have my issues with it, but I can finally say that it is a good game, one that has me wanting to return to it, oh, maybe three more times (PS3, Ps4 and Xbox 360 versions). If I ignore the Story Packs, it’s solid. And fun. And I can’t wait to finish the year playing through the PS4 version to reach 100% all over again.

The last game on this list is one that I normally wouldn’t have included… but it kept me from losing my sanity during the beginning of my time in lockdown. Disneyland Adventures is not the best game. The story is passable at best. The collectables were annoying to collect. The rides were annoying to even play through. But you know what? It gave me the Disney feels I really needed this year, with everything being a nightmare.

So. Gaming in 2020 was weird. For the most past, I actually avoided playing most of the new releases that came out this year. If anyone is curious, I’m really picky about what games I play, and most of the big releases were just not on my want list. I will say, there were a bunch of games that I more enjoyed watching than playing. But I’m a weird person.

As for the rest of the year, my plan is to replay Lego Dimensions on the PS4, so that I can get to 100% (though this may move to January 2021). I also want to play Bugsnax, which I went ahead and picked up for PS4, because it’s damn fun looking. I also want to finish up Erica, so that I can pretend this game never existed. And finally, I kinda want to play through Disneyland Adventures again, just because. No real reason. Of course, it all depends on what I get on Christmas.

Anyway, I hope you enjoyed!

Until next time!

What Are My Favorite Video Games? – Blogmas

Considering how crazy this year has been, it’s no surprise that video games have just skyrocketed into major popularity. From having some of the biggest releases ever, to having a political candidate make an island in Animal Crossing to connect with the younger generation of voters, this year has really bridged the gap between gamers and the public.

I’ve been gaming since I was five or six. My dad bought my family a Super Nintendo for Christmas in 1995/6, the year or so before the release of the Nintendo 64. I grew up playing Aladdin and Lion King. It was only a few years later that I got my hands onto a Game Boy Color and Pokémon Blue. I’ve been a gamer ever since.

Now that I’m in my thirties, I can look back and see just how many generations of gaming I’ve been apart of. Heck, I’ve owned a lot of consoles. For home consoles, I started with the Super Nintendo, then finally upgraded to the GameCube. I got a Wii when I was fifteen, as a present for not completely freaking out when my mom ended up in the hospital with food poisoning during my cousin’s wedding. Playstation entered my life at thirteen with a PS2. The PS3 was a gift for getting into USF. I bought my PS4 in 2016 (one of my first “big” purchases after college), and it remains my favorite console. As for my Xbox One, that was purchased in 2018, then not touched until after we moved to California, except for making sure the damn thing worked. No seriously, it honestly stayed in the box until after we moved into our second California apartment, when it is now set up and haunting me at night.

As for handheld consoles… I grew up with a Game Boy Color. Then, after much begging, I got a Game Boy Advance. (Both of them were the see-through purple versions, the far superior ones.) I paid for a GBA SP when it came out thanks to chores. Then the DS arrived, and that was a day one purchase. I got a DS Light about two months after that released… then won one in an arcade about three months later and gave it to my best friend, Kit. That was actually my last hand held console for years. I was gifted a Playstation Vita in Christmas 2015 (and I’ll leave the story behind that at the end of this post). As for my Nintendo Switch, I bought it during the Summer of 2018, before my move across the country. I’d figured I would have some time during the drive to play, but I ended up driving my car most of the way. That’s a story for another time.

So, I’ve played a lot of games in my life, and I’ve watched a lot more (thanks speedrun events). But I honestly do have my clear favorites, the ones I come back to when I need a pick me up.

My all time favorite series is the Kingdom Hearts games, especially the console games (I, II, and III). I have gone back and played through the games multiple times. I’ve also given the other games some love, but I always come back to the trilogy. I know there is a large portion of the population that just cannot stand KHIII, and I get it, but I enjoyed it. Yes there were parts that I would have edited down or out (the required musical in the Frozen world to name one glaring issue), but on the whole I felt it was a good ending to the series. Now, it’s also true that the DLC has been out for a year and I have yet to play it (thanks Lego games), but it’s on my list.

Speaking of Lego games… I have a few that fit this list. Lego Dimensions, Lego DC Supervillains, Lego City Undercover, and Lego Marvel Superheroes. Each one I like for different reasons.

Lego Dimensions is a game that is so large, it should be easy to get lost. But I never did. Each world is self contained. The extra story and level packs don’t take away from the main storyline, nor do they impede on it. Yes, there are some parts of the game that I have issue with – the incompleteness that is the Lego Batman World comes firmly to mind. But I do enjoy like 99% of it. Even if it was a cash grab. They got my $800 bucks.

Lego DC Supervillains is the Lego comic game for the new gamers, the young and the old. It is spectacular. The voice cast is on point, the story is (mostly) amazing and not bogged down. The character roster isn’t too humongous. Most areas aren’t completely filled with missions. It’s a great Lego game. But let’s not talk about the DLC levels, ok? I still have some issues with them (Aquaman and Shazam get two?? WHY.)

Let’s jump ship and hit one of the best original Lego games. Lego City Undercover is huge. No serious. The game take like 40 hours to 100%. The story is actually pretty good, and for the most part it doesn’t hold your hand. What blew my mind is the fact this is the only Lego game in memory that you don’t have the secondary character chasing you around while you are doing overworld stuff. It’s just… Chase. And it is brilliant. Now, I do thing that the post-game is a bit long. And by a bit… ok, it’s just too damn big. But I have a thing for the final section of Level 15. Don’t judge me too much.

My last favorite Lego game is Lego Marvel Superheroes. I’m talking the first one. The one with the X-Men and Deadpool and the Fantastic Four. This one is my all time favorite. I’ve played through the game three times already, and I cannot wait to get my hands onto the Xbox 360 copy so I can do it again. The cast of characters is great (hello Peter Parker being adorable), the story is on point with a great mix of teams, and it feels really tight. I also like the other two, but they just aren’t up to par with the original.

There’s a indie game called The Sexy Brutale that is absolutely gorgeous, and it is wicked hard if you get turned around. You play a character that has the ability to turn back the clock on a single day, to save his employer and his friends from death. It’s brutal, it’s smart, it’s a puzzle game who’s story took me by surprise. I’m planning on replaying it on Xbox one of these days, because it really caught me in a way that I wasn’t expecting.

Another game that probably is on everyone’s favorite list (especially if they are a PS4 player) is Marvel’s Spider-man. Wow, this game blew me out of the water. The surprisingly mature storyline was great, and I really felt Peter’s despair during the latter half of the story, which I absolutely believe is because of Yuri Lowenthal’s amazing vocal performance. I also didn’t really feel as though the post game was too much. Now, the DLC, and those damn Screwball Challenges… There’s a reason why I haven’t gone back to finish them. But I really needed to act least do the final DLC mission. Now that Miles Morales is out (and playable on PS4, since I won’t be getting a PS5 for a while), I’m gonna give that final mission some love. (Though, please don’t get me started on Marvel’s Avengers. PLEASE.)

I have a love for indie games, though I don’t talk about it too much. There’s a game called Lili: Child of Geos that caught my eye one day, and I fell in love with it. It’s the tale of a young girl who goes to this island to study the flowers, only to get involved in overthrowing the psychotic overlord of the island. It’s all fine and cute and fun, and minus one trophy, goes really fast. (Ok, two trophies, but if you know the trick, one is quick). I’ve played it twice, and it’s a crime that is isn’t on Xbox. It’s a good one.

Speaking of Xbox, I have a special place in my heart for Disneyland Adventure, which is an Xbox game taking place in Disneyland. Yeah, that’s the premise. You “ride” the classic rides, collect a million little things, and meet up with characters. I had a good time playing through this game on stream back when I was streaming, before my internet issues started to crop up. I really need to go back and give this a complete. It was fun to run around and play through the storylines, though some characters… aren’t the best.

I’d be remis if I didn’t include Life is Strange. Now, I have played through the prequel, Before the Storm, but not the sequel. I enjoyed the original game for the most part, though by part four I was starting to get over Chloe and Max and their issues. (And yes, I picked Bay over Bae, fight me.) The prequel actually made me feel like the series had lost all the ground it had gained with the first game. As for the sequel, I’d rather have more of Max’s story. The two new characters didn’t do it for me. Why would I include it on my favorite list? Besides giving me one of my all time favorite glitches, I connected with Max for the most part. It gave me prospective.

There’s another indie title called Blackwood Crossing that also caught my eye when I was trophy hunting. And wow, did it destroy me. It tells the story of grief and regret in a very mature way, while using a child to drive the story. I was surprised with how much I enjoyed this one, so much so I got the EU copy as well to play through again. It’s not the perfect game, but it’s well worth a playthough.

I have one more game that I put on my favorites list, even though I actually haven’t completed it yet. That’s Persona 5 (and Royal as well). There’s something about this game that makes me want to play it. I usually don’t like turn based RPGs, nor do I like 100+ hour games, where one mistake can mess you up way down the line. But the story of Persona 5 blew my mind. I have seen the show, I’ve read the manga, and I have watched let’s players go through it. It’s complex, it’s thought provoking, and it’s on point. The characters are dynamic, and have their own personal storylines. It’s worth playing through, even just one.

And that’s all she wrote. There are so many games I would have loved to include on this, but I didn’t want to bog this down too far (and then I went and added the note from hell, shut it). This is a sampling of some of my favorite games. Is one of yours on this list? Or did I just introduce a new game to you? Let me know in the comments.

Until next time!

As for the Vita story… (please excuse the subscript, there’s a lot.)

We had a family friend living with us for nearly four years, until about March of 2016. During Christmas shopping for 2015, I flat out asked for a PS4. I wrote it down on my Christmas list (yes, we do Christmas lists. It makes it easier for everyone to make sure we’re getting the right things, like console specific things or DVDs/Blu Rays). I said it to Mom’s face. But when it came time to order it, the friend convinced my mom I meant the Vita, not the PS4. Because I would hate the PS4, and she didn’t want to ruin Christmas with my disappointment, right? Yeah, I was 25, I’m not going to whine if I’m gifted the wrong thing for Christmas. I just say thank you and snag the receipt so I can return the damn thing and get what I asked for. Anyway, come Christmas morning, I can tell there isn’t a PS4 under the tree. Oh well, I’ll buy one later on. When I opened the box that had the Vita, the friend made it a point to call it out, saying that he made sure I got exactly what I wanted, I could be thankful he fixed my mistake, ect. I just shrugged, said thanks to Mom, since the damn thing was from her, anyway, and set it aside. She kept on trying to confirm if she got the right thing (she’s kinda hopeless with consoles, hence the lists), and I just said sure, it’s cool, let’s talk after breakfast.

Later on, when we could speak privately, I explained that no, I actually did want the PS4, thanks roommate, but I’m perfectly happy with the Vita, I’ll get some trophy games and it’ll be worth it, don’t worry. She was pissed at the friend for convincing her that I was wrong that she almost kicked him out on Christmas. As it was, she made it clear that his time in our house was at its end, move on. She was so embarrassed that she messed up. But I promise I wasn’t ungrateful. I just didn’t want a Vita. But I actually made a point to save up for the PS4 and I got it that October.

Why didn’t I include this in the main part of the post? Well, one, it’s a bloody long story, and doesn’t fit the topic of the post. But also, should mom read this, I don’t want her to think I’m calling her out, because I’m not. Heck, I’m trying again this year. Since there isn’t a snowball’s chance in hell of me getting my hands onto a PS5 or Xbox Series X, I asked for a Xbox 360. I’m honestly curious if I get one. But if not, I’m totally cool with it. I feel blessed that I own so many consoles, even if I’m down to six right now (PS3, PS4, Vita, XBox One, Switch, and NDS Lite). If I don’t get it, fine, I’ll get it later in the year. It’s just gonna be a Lego gaming machine as it is….

As for the friend, he moved out in March. This was the second time he’d done something like this, but this time it was a more considerable amount of money. The first time was the previous Christmas, and I’d asked for some movie novelizations of a couple comic book movies, and he told her no, I meant the comics, and proceeded to get her to order collections that were outside our price range. I had a hard time selling them, since they weren’t popular collections and they weren’t what I asked for. I think they ended up at Goodwill and I bought the novelizations myself later on.

Oh, and the whole selling thing? We have a deal. We save receipts, because we both have major different tastes, but we both try. If we mess up, here’s the receipt, enjoy. No hard feelings. It works for us. Ok, that’s all. That’s a lot longer than what I thought it would be.

Hidden Object Games in 2020: Artifex Mundi – Blogmas

I am almost positive that most people don’t really play hidden object or hidden picture games in 2020. At 27, I figured I was in that same boat. But back in 2017, I found a company that is bringing hidden object games to PS4 and Xbox one. And they’d been doing it for years.

The company is Artifex Mundi. They are based out of Poland. And they create and publish hidden object games.

And by games, I mean a lot of games.

As of now, there are approximately 37 games that have been released on PS4, and I’ve played all but the latest one, only because I’m bogged down by Christmas stuff. (I’ll be playing it tomorrow.) There about the same amount on Xbox, and a good handful that are being posted over to Nintendo Switch.

And then there is Steam. There are so many more that have been released on Steam and the app stores. There are more than 70 different games in their library. And I emphasize the “more than.” I stopped going back at 2012, but I know there are more.

What drew me to this genre was actually the fact that the first game I found was on the list for quick platinums. I was having a bad day, and I went searching for something that I could beat easily while still playing something with a story. I just needed that feeling of “I completed it!”

So I downloaded Clockwork Tales: Of Ink and Glass.

It’s been a few years since I dove into this steampunk store, but I do remember that I actually enjoyed the story, and wow did I have to really chick everything to make sure I got all the clues.

Since then, I’ve played stories featuring murders and mysteries, magic and mayhem. You play as a variety of different characters (mostly strong and smart women, which YAY!). You solve cases and save people and lock people in different dimensions.

I’m not saying that these games are the best things on the market. No way. I’m also not saying that the writing is great. Many times I find the writing to be wooden, and logical leaps to be… well, not logical. The voice acting is hit and miss at the best of times. A lot of the actual stories leave a lot to be desired.

But.

But I still like them.

I admit, I play a lot of not so great games. I also have played AAA games. I play what I like (which is why I probably will never play GTA or God of War or basically any FPS game on the market). I don’t really care if a game comes from one of the biggest studios on the market, or from a small team out of Poland. It doesn’t have to be perfect, it can be buggy are horrible as hell. All that matters is that I enjoy it.

Tonight, I’m playing the latest one released on PS4, and I cannot wait. I want to see where they take the story of the Persian Desert. (It’s a thing, go with it) Let’s see where this one goes.

Until next time!

My “New” Lego Challenge – Blogmas!

I swear, it’s just because I love these games.

Back when I was neck deep into Lego Dimensions, I happened to look at my trophy list on Playstation. Because I was using PSNProfiles, I could see what games I’ve started, which ones I’ve completed, and which ones were still in the void. I realized that, while I love Lego games, I abandoned every one of them on the PS3 as soon as I bought my PS4 all those years ago.

Which means I have some uncompleted games to complete.

The list is nowhere near as daunting as the Xbox One list was. It’s only six games. But there’s a reason I haven’t done them.

  1. Lego Indiana Jones 2: The Adventure Continues is one of those games that I haven’t every touched. I’ve been told that it can be a bit of a nightmare, which looks to be an understatement. This one will take the most time, I believe, due to a real lack of wanting to touch it.
  2. Lego Star Wars III: The Clone Wars is another that I just never bothered to get, though I do own it now. Considering it’s from the old era, I know it is more unforgiving in many aspects, which is why I have avoided it. But, I think taking a trip down memory lane before Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga would be a good idea, as I know I’m not really going to want to touch this after that game arrives.
  3. Lego Pirates of the Caribbean. Well. I. Um. Okay, look, I’ve started the damn thing like five times, and every time I get to the back half of levels, get bored, and bail. I’m gonna need a reward system in place to get me to finish this one off. For those curious, this game contains the first four films, without a voice track, and major leaps from the source material, because death doesn’t exist in the Lego universe. Sometimes. Kinda.
  4. Lego Lord of the Rings. I’ve avoided this one. Honest. I am just not a Lord of the Rings fan. I have spent so many years of my life pretending that I didn’t read it, because I disliked it so much. But I want to at least have the platinum in it, so on the list it goes.
  5. Lego The Hobbit. I have a unique reason why I never finished this one! I found it to be laggy on PS3, compared to the PS4 version. I’ll play it with regret, but at least I have it down so that I can blast through the levels, though the post game is just frankly annoying.
  6. Lego Dimensions. Hush. I’m not playing to 100% on this one. Just getting all the trophies. I got the platinum early on in my Lego gaming days, which only a handful of the packs. I’m not about to go for 100% on the PS3, where the game runs slower and just seems to be a nightmare. I only have the ten level packs and the three story packs… which work out to be the size of a complete game. Whoops.

See? It’s not so bad. And my timeline is just 2021. December 31st. Nothing crazy, no real damage done.

Oh, and I am also adding Lego Dimensions on PS4, to 100%. I am only missing the three Story Packs and their associated worlds. It would only take a weekend to knock it out, when I get around to it.

So, that’s the new challenge.

Unless… I did ask for a Xbox 360 for Christmas. If that happens… this list just quadrupled in size. But that’s a nightmare for boxing day.

Until next time!

Restarting Animal Crossing New Horizons After SEVEN MONTHS – Blogmas!

So I have this thing about Animal Crossing. I love it. I really do. It’s a wonderful thirty minute to one hour daily time suck.

And yet.

I started playing the newest game about ten days after release day. I wanted a physical copy (I have a thing about that), and Target was slightly delayed in shipping it. Which was fine. I planned instead.

I named my island Aincrad, after the floating island in Sword Art Online. I found people who were already uploading designs onto the gallery of Kirito’s outfit, which is what I wanted to wear.

I figured out with characters I wanted as islanders (and failed all around). I planned my character’s design, what clothing I would hunt for, what hair would I try and find. I researched the turnip exchange. I planned to take an axe to the trash bird Gulliver (it’s an Animal Crossing Pocket Camp joke).

And when I got my game, I jumped in head long. For the first month, I don’t think I missed a day of at least checking in. I got my neighbors. I collected items. I made stupid mistakes like selling all my resources early on to the Nooklings.

After about a month, I slowed down, missed a day here and there. By now, I’d left my job, and didn’t have anyone in person to talk to about it. I started to dislike the name, for the simple reason of, “I could’ve been more creative.”

[Real talk, people named their island Corona and Pandemic and Quarantine and Wuhan and almost every other little thing that could even remotely relate to this. So, I wasn’t that badly off.]

I took part in the summer events. I finally got the ability to terraform my island, and start moving things around, because I sucked at where I placed everything. I started filling up the museum.

And then August hit, and I forgot all about the game.

Nothing was really happening IRL to make me forget. But the drive was gone. I just… didn’t care. It has nothing to do with the game itself, it’s still fun and a wonderful time suck, I just… fell off.

Until mid November.

So, the day was a normal day. I was working on a fanfic. And suddenly, I wanted to play Animal Crossing. I’ve been playing ACPC on my phone, but that wasn’t what I wanted. I wanted my island.

So I booted up the game… and I was immediately annoyed. I’d left my island in a very large state of disrepair. Half the houses had been moved, but they weren’t even, and it bothered me. I was trying to make a little town with a road and everything, but I miscounted how far back to go, and now you couldn’t see the road. I’d spent so much time planning my orchard, and I went to it only to discover that I’d, once again, messed up my planning.

I wasn’t happy.

I went on Twitter and ranted for a while about it. Then I got a bright idea.

Nuke it.

Start again.

But should I?

I sat on this for a bit, before biting the bullet. Yes. I did.

So Aincrad Island is no more. My character, my house, my horribly designed island has vanished into the pit of data where all things delete. And I started anew.

My character is still named Liz. I almost went Remy, but at the last minute, I just kept it as planned. My island is now called AllAndMore, because of my new life obsession (please don’t let me regret this in July 2021 or whatever). I’m back to the barebones, and I’m currently being harassed into having a clown for a neighbor.

But you know what? I haven’t completely messed up in the turnip market yet, and that’s what matters. Because money.

Anyway, yes, I’m insane. After seven months of careful playing, and marking up my guidebook that I bought, I hit the reset button. And I won’t have it any other way.

Let me know if you want to see my island once I’m done. Because it could happen… in like two months. After the new year, at least.

Until next time!

I Finished My Xbox One Lego Challenge! – Blogmas!

It took more than 300 days. A grant total of 446.5 hours. Sixteen games.

And I’m finally done.

I’ve talked about it before. On January 22nd, I decided to embark on a bit of a quest. To play all 16 released Lego games on Xbox One (not including any backwards compatible games). The goal was to finish by October, as that was when Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga was rumored to be released.

At the time, the world was a different place. I still had a job. The world wasn’t in desperate need of a lockdown. TSS hadn’t been delayed until Spring 2021 yet, leaving 2020 without a Lego game release in a year for the first time since at least 2009.

There was a point in June or July that I decided I just didn’t care anymore. But this challenge was what honestly got me though this nightmare of a year. So, let’s run through this, in order.

Game One: Lego Marvel Super Heroes (Finished January 22. 29.5 hours)

LMSH remains one of my favorite Lego games to this day. It was the first game I ever completed on my PS3, so it was almost fitting that my first game in this challenge was the same. In fact, I decided to do this challenge because of this game and the nostalgia I got from it. This is also my favorite Lego Marvel game, for a variety of reasons, though I do like the others. But I love the voice acting in this one, more than LMSH2 (which I’ll discuss later), and the inclusion of characters. I miss having the X-Men and Deadpool in Lego games. Hopefully, now that the rights are back with one company, maybe the rumored third LMSH game will have their return? But as for the game, it’s solid. The story is great, the cast is great, the quests are fun. This is always a good game to come back to.

Game Two: The Lego Movie Video Game (Finished January 24. 9 hours)

Look, this game is glitchy. But it’s also amazing. It’s a solid game based on the movie of the same name. It’s short, but it’s fun. I’ve also played it four times now (PS3, PS4 twice, and now Xbox One). The levels aren’t completely terrible, except for the requisite water level (which was the worst part of this). The overworlds were small, but they worked with the game. The only real issue I saw was the blurring of certain characters, because licensing! It’s a quick, fun little game.

Game Three: Lego City Undercover (Finished February 1. 35 hours)

TT Game’s first original game, and it was amazing. It was also one of the biggest games that I played. The fifteen levels were fine, the story was fun. The final falling scene from Level 15 remains one of my favorite sequences in a Lego game to this day, and that’s all because of the beautiful music. I think I replayed Level 15 like three more times, just because of that track. The post game is a little bloated (okay, a lot), but the world is imaginative and diverse. I really hope that this game is revisited in the future, because I’d like the opportunity to play as Chase again. Fun fact, this is one of the only Lego games were you are not forced to have the second character chasing after you! For most of the game, it’s just one player, unless you have a second controller in play. Worth it.

Game Four: Lego Harry Potter Years 1-4 (Finished February 8. 22 hours)

Hello classic gaming. Lego HP is from the previous era of Lego gaming, where there was not a vocal track, just grunting. It was a nice change of pace to see. I also managed to avoid all the game breaking glitches with this one! Hogwarts was a ball to explore as always. I still have a place in my heart for this series, author be damned. If you want to play a more classic game, give this one a chance.

Game Five: Lego Harry Potter Years 5-7 (Finished February 14. 20 hours)

I have mixed feelings with this one in comparison to the previous game. The world is bigger, but it feels incomplete. Stretching Year 7 to two years, following the movies, made the game feel far too long. It just didn’t work for me. Also, what is with older games and water levels. Yuck. I ended up playing these back to back due to having an achievement being slow to watch, but I’m glad I finished them together.

Game Six: Lego The Incredibles (Finished February 23. 16 hours)

I have issues with this one. Lots of issues. Level order to start (Incredibles 2, then Incredibles). Too many characters to collect, most of them useless and never used. Unlocking all the character takes nearly 45 seconds per character. It just didn’t work well. It was rushed and it showed. I remember playing through it on the first time on PS4, and I almost turned it off because I felt so let down. I knew going into this one, I wouldn’t be happy. But I’m just glad that I could get through it fast.

Game Seven: Lego DC Super Villains (Finished March 2. 36 hours + 4 hours of DLC)

Yes, my character has a bow tie. Bow ties are cool. And no, I’m not a Doctor Who fan. But I can still steal the jokes.

This game is massive nostalgia factor. My father and I used to watch all the classic DC shows together, and especially loved Batman and Joker. I forgot that Kevin Conroy and Mark Hamill were returning to the DC Universe as Batman and Joker in this game. I’ll totally admit I screamed the first time I heard it. On top of that, this is the first time that the player has a hand in the story, as they play “The Rookie” which is basically an OC that you create over time during the game. I usually just use the same character (this was my third full playthrough, thanks PSN EU store). This game also looks so pretty! It’s a blast, it’s huge, but not overly so. I went back… about a month or so later to do the DLC (which wasn’t originally part of the plan, until LMSH2, where I started the DLC without thinking). This game is worth the price of admission, in spades.

Game Eight: The Lego Movie 2 Video Game (Finished March 5. 11.5 hours)

Kill it. Kill it with fire.

I’m all for short games. But this one… I have feelings and issues. First off, it only has seven levels. They are boring. They changed the story of the movie to fit the game (to include Wyldstyle throughout the game). You never really need to change your character at all. There’s nothing imaginative about this. None of the flying characters actually fly (and that includes Superman and Wonder Woman). It’s boring. And, it’s rumored that this game was the reason TSS was delayed internally the first time to 2020.

Ok. So I don’t like this one. I got it off my chest.

Game Nine: The Lego Ninjago Movie Video Game (Finished May 6. 17 hours)

In contrast to the last dumpster fire, this one isn’t horrible. It’s not great, but it is playable. I’ve never been a fan of Ninjago (I missed the boat on it, sorry), but this one was at least fun to play. I also never saw the movie, so I don’t know how well it followed the plotline. I will say that the inclusion of movie cutscenes in this one didn’t work that well for me. But it looks nice at least.

Game Ten: Lego Marvel’s Avengers (Finished May 13. 34 hours)

Let’s give TT Games a hand for having to use like eight movies worth of dialogue (and a handful of lines from a TV series) and managed to tiptoe around all the language and death! I’m not saying it was good, but it was fun! This game is my least favorite of the three, but it still had some good parts. The characters included are a good mix, and most of the challenges don’t make me want to scream. I had a lot of fun playing around. Also, this game has my favorite version of Bucky Barnes (used in the second level), where he’s hilarious, I don’t care what you think.

Game Eleven: Lego Marvel Superheroes 2 (Finished May 31. 37.5 hours)

Hey look, the longest Marvel game in history! Also, the inclusion of Gwenpool, who I started muting my TV for every time she spoke. The story for this one was interesting to say the least. It wasn’t horrible, but it wasn’t the best. I feel for the voice cast, since they had to scramble to fill in roles due to the Voice Acting Guild strike in 2016-17. It just didn’t work here. These poor people. My biggest problem was just the fact that there didn’t seem to be much variety in gold brick missions. It’s kinda sad really. But I still liked it, and it is one of the better Lego games in my opinion.

(Also, it was here that I discovered that some of the games counted DLC in their 100% counter. I sent back and got them all because of it.)

Game Twelve: Lego Jurassic World (Finished June 11. 25 hours)

I will fight for this game. I really enjoyed it! Sure, there are some parts that could have been rewritten or condensed. But I really enjoyed like 99% of this one. I actually went and finally rewatched all the classic Jurassic Park movies because of this one. I don’t really have any issues with this one. The voices from the films are used, but they aren’t terrible. It works.

Game Thirteen: Lego Batman 3: Beyond Gotham (Finished July 11. 33 hours)

This game deserves the love it gets. It’s a solid game with a great cast, wonderful story, and a decent overworld. Honestly, the only thing I take issue with this game is the lanturn planets. Something with the curved nature of them actually caused me to get motion sickness during my playthrough. But it’s so much fun and I wish I could play it again and again. If you need a game to play, this one may be for you.

Game Fourteen: Lego The Hobbit (Finished July 19. 32 hours)

I feel really bad dragging parts of this game. It’s pretty, and it has some really good inversions to getting all the red bricks and what not. However. I am not a fan of LotR or the Hobbit. So I am already not the target audience. (I actively avoid the series, honestly.) The lack of diversity in the dungeon designs really got me annoyed. I think there were three designs, with a few inverted for “good measure”. It got real repetitive real fast. Honestly, the biggest problem I have is the 10 BILLION STUD achievement. That took forever to get.

Game Fifteen: Lego Dimensions (Finished August 28. 65 hours)

I’ve done two or three posts on Dimensions, so my feelings are know. But they bare repeating, at least a little. 65 hours, 9 weeks, 1016 gold bricks. I still cannot believe that I actually completed this game. Now, I still love the main story, and some of the level packs. But the Sonic pack can burn, and the Lego Batman Movie Story pack was a waste of time (so was that Adventure World, I swear). But this one will remain close to my heart. (Quick aside, I am so glad I bought all the kits before the game was canceled. It’s worth like double now. Whoop!)

Game Sixteen: Lego Star Wars: The Force Awakens (November 30. 23.5 hours)

I probably would have beaten this much quicker if not for one teeny tiny little thing: Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga got delayed. We got the news as Gamescom 2020 on August 27th, literally the day before I finished Lego Dimensions. It completely threw me. I just couldn’t get myself to play.

Until November 25th. I decided to just finish the damn thing. And I remember why I both love and dislike this game. This is a (mostly) faithful adaptation of the movie. The problem is, it’s a huge game, and it’s based off of one movie. If it was based off the entire Sequel Trilogy, I’d be fine with the length. But it’s not. It’s one two-and-a-bit hour movie. That’s my biggest issue. You can only stretch out one moment so much. I did enjoy the fact that there are other stories told in the extra levels, as well as the DLC, but the base game is just bloated.

So.

That’s all sixteen games released on Xbox One. 18275 gamerscore. If I ever get my hands onto an Xbox 360 (because I still that console), I’ll revisit this challenge in some way and play everything on 360.

Up next for me in Lego games (probably late December, early January) is finally finishing up my PS3 backlog. So… Indiana Jones 2, Star Wars III, Pirates of the Caribbean, Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit, and of course Lego Dimensions. But like I said, next year. I need a break.

Until next time! I’m gonna take a nap.
