When I made my December plans, as well as started to plan for Blogmas, I had a plan for December 13th. But to explain that, we have to go back to November, or even to October.
Many months ago, Mom planned my birthday weekend trip to Disneyland, with us scheduled to stay at the Disneyland Hotel and go to a bunch of restaurants and do all of our Christmas shopping. We got reservations at the Blue Bayou Restaurant in Disneyland (a MUST to go back to, worth every bite, OMG) and came up with a simple list of things to do and experience. After all we’d only been going to Disneyland for a few years at this point, and a lot of the Disneyland specific experiences were still beyond us at this point.
What we didn’t anticipate was the Government Shutdown, which meant that Mom and I didn’t get paid from October until after our November trip.
While we were able to go to the restaurants as planned (the magic of credit cards, please know that I’m being sarcastic…), our shopping was severely hampered. Which made sense. I’m not complaining, we just wanted to do some Christmas shopping so…
As November became December, we made a plan. December 13th was my Dad’s birthday. It was a Saturday. It would work perfectly! The week prior we were seeing Suffs, the day after was a book club that I didn’t want to miss. It fit in perfectly.
And there in lies the problem. Because the best laid plans always get ruined. And for me, that went double.
First, obviuosly, was me getting sick during the week. I’ve mentioned several times earlier this week. But the other…
My position is currently requiring mandatory overtime. It’s something that I’ve never had to deal with before, but because of circumstances, I was going to have to deal with it. I had been planning on taking care of my required hours last week, but again, sick. That meant possibly Saturday.
So.
We made a decision.
We’re going to miss Disneyland during the Holidays for one more year.
So, no, I haven’t seen the parks all lit up here in California. I wasn’t able to see all the shops decked out, or all of the new merch (though I did get this adorable Mickey Snowman necklace while I was there in November, and it’s my current necklace of choice until the end of the month). I didn’t get to suffer through the holiday fireworks show (fireworks are a migraine trigger, but damnit all, I’m not missing certain ones).
But that’s okay. Next year, I’ll get to see it. Just… not yet. I can wait a little longer.
