“Bulletin Board” Making – Blogtober 2021

Ok, granted, it’s not a bulletin board. But I don’t have one, so I have to make do.

The other day, I decided it was high time for me to update my closet door. Because of the way I currently have my room set up, in order to maximize the space, I don’t really have the ability to have any sort of bulletin board on my walls (mostly because I have pin boards for some of my pins, and a few bookish tapestries filling the rest of the blank space not already blocked by bookcases.

When we first moved in, I decorated my closet door. It’s been added to since August 2019, but it was getting a bit full, and a bit messy.

Like I said. Messy.

Along the top of my closet is the theme cards for Owlcrate. I have all of 2020 and most of 2021 posted. It’s a fun way for me to keep track of what month’s box is coming next, especially in those months when the boxes were so delayed (due to the shipping issues plaguing the world). All of the stickers are actually just put up with sticky tack, along with everything else. I wanted to make sure that everything was easily changed, while also being fun.

My biggest problem is that I put a few things up quickly, and didn’t take into account the future. There were a lot of things I added just wherever I could find space, regardless of “aesthetics” I also had entirely too many little random things that really just don’t fit anymore.

So, the original plan was actually to use the right side as something of a memory strip. Unfortunately, the world is stupid and we haven’t really done anything outside of the house since January 2020. Because obviously.

I finally got frustrated the other day, took everything down. Well, barring the Owlcrate cards. But those were always going to stay.

Most of the sticky tack was actually pretty dry as I took it down, leaving it stuck on the door. It took a bit of time, but I was able to revive all the putty and get it malleable enough to carefully remove it. This process took about an hour, mostly because I kept getting distracted by Discord.

Once all the sticky putty was safely removed from the door, I sat down all of the pieces that I’d just pulled off of my door, as well as some others that were stored away. I didn’t want to put up nearly as much as was there before, so I actually limited it down. Another thing was I really wanted to get away from a few larger pieces.

This is how it came out! Much smaller, much simpler, but still just as colorful. I based the entire design off of the “Just Breath” piece. It’s something I look at when I start getting stressed out. The quote pieces are from some of the different book boxes that I’ve subscribed to (most of which are no longer in existence). The Old Guard art pieces fare from my preorder of the TOG Zine that came out about six months ago. A bunch of the stickers are from FrameRateMerch, which is a merch company owned by Ray and Tina Narvaez, streamers that I really like on Twitch. And the bookmarks are actually from two of the Barnes and Noble YA Book Club meetings before the pandemic.

I didn’t want to fill the space up this time, so I left a good amount of room to grow. Also, the Owlcrate cards will be changing once I get the December 2021 card. I’ll be packing away the 2020 cards. Otherwise, I’d run out of space.

It’s just a simple thing, but it’s something that really helps my brain to know that it’s done. And honestly, I love how it turned out! The only thing I’m currently wanting for the door is some 9-1-1 rep. One day…

(Shout out to the AGQU 2018, AverageTrey’s Super Mario Sunshine run! Listening along to it helped me get through the process quicker.)

Until next time!
