Life of a Gamer: Where I Stand

I’ve been a proud Playstation Nation member since 2003, when one of my friends let me play Kingdom Hearts for about five minutes. I was immediately hooked on the series, and fell in love with both the game and the system itself. Within a year, I had a Playstation 2, which would basically become my primary/secondary console (depending on which game came out for PS2 or the Nintendo GameCube).

I will say that I didn’t play a lot of the classic games that everyone from my generation played to death. I never played Spyro, I only played a handheld version of Crash Bandicoot, and Sly Cooper and Jak and Daxter weren’t on my raider. I also don’t think I finished a game, if you don’t count the 40+ times I beat Kingdom Hearts and Kingdom Hearts II.

Only when I bought a Playstation 3 on the way home from work the summer before my last year in college in 2014 did I really begin to consider myself a gamer.

Why?

Because I discovered the Playstation Trophy System.

I’ve discovered that I’m something of a completionist. I want to get as many trophies as I can. I started with one of my favorite games, LEGO Marvel Super Heroes, which incorporated my favorite Marvel characters into a unique story. With just one game, I because absolutely obsessed with the LEGO gaming series, to the point that I bought EVERY figure for Lego Dimensions (with more than half being on release day). Worth it.

It’s been almost exactly five years since earning my first trophy. As of now, I have 144 Platinum, 974 Gold, 1,608 Silver, and 2,978 Bronze trophies. For those that are curious, that’s a LOT. I’ve played some amazing games (Life is Strange, Lego DC Super-Villains, and Kingdom Hearts III), and some absolutely HORRIBLE games (a bunch of Platinum-bait games).

To earn a Platinum trophy, you have to usually complete the game. For some games, that means 100% completion. For others, it’s simply satisfy certain objectives. This year alone I have earned 41 Platinum trophies and two more completed games (games that do not have a Platinum).

The games I’ve earned Platinum this year are:

  • Marvel’s Spider-man
  • Lili: Child of Geos
  • Noir Chronicles: City of Crime
  • Kingmaker: Rise to the Throne
  • Queen’s Quest 2: Stories of Forgotten Past
  • Modern Tales: Age of Invention
  • Queen’s Quest 3: The End of Dawn
  • LEGO Batman 3: Beyond Gotham
  • LEGO DC Super-Villains
  • LEGO Jurassic World
  • LEGO The Hobbit
  • LEGO Star Wars: The Force Awakens
  • LEGO Dimensions
  • LEGO Movie 2: The Videogame (my pick for Worst Game of 2019 Thus Far)
  • Access Denied (x2)
  • Deponia
  • Chaos on Deponia
  • Goodbye Deponia
  • Drowning
  • The Sexy Brutale
  • Storm Boy
  • Tales of Dragonasia (runner up for Worst Game of 2019 Thus Far)
  • Pic-a-Pix Classic (x2)
  • Pic-a-Pix Pieces (x2)
  • Fill-a-Pix: Phil’s Epic Adventure
  • Mixups by POWGI (x3)
  • Own Word by POWGI (x3)
  • Word Search by POWGI
  • Crossovers by POWGI (x3)
  • Energy Cycle Edge (x2)
  • Word Wheel by POWGI

As for the simply completed games, those are: Submerged and Paraiso Island.

I’m only six away from getting 150 Platinums. I know which six games will get me there. I’m hoping to get there by the end of summer, as one will take a while (since I had to reset since I messed up to the point that I wouldn’t be able to win for months). I’m mostly hoping to hit 100 Platinums by the end of the year, which may or may not happen. That depends on what plat-bait games come out. I can think of about ten off the top of my head.

I may not play the most popular games on the market. Nor do I play the shooters or MMOs or the things that get all the views. I’ll stick with my puzzles and hidden pictures and LEGO games, the things that make me happy to play. The games I play are ones that make me excited to play.

I hope I can continue to play them as time goes on.
