When I hit one hundred platinum trophies on Halloween last year, I told myself I wanted to hit 150 before a year had passed.
I hit 150 at 9:45 pm tonight.
I wanted to 150 to be special. I had it all planned out. The goal was for Persona 5 to be the buy ticket winner. I was so excited to start playing.
Than I realized just how long P5 was going to take. Probably 100 hours with my play style, which also includes any inevitable mistakes that I make.
So I changed my plan a little. I figured I’d take my time over the spring and summer, and in fall, when this year’s big ticket LEGO game came out, I’d make that one 150.
E3 shot that down with the announcement that LEGO Star Wars The Skywalker Saga wouldn’t be released until early 2020, which was outside my self imposed one year deadline.
So. Back to the drawing board again.
I wanted 150 to be special, like 100 was. I wanted the achievement to be on a game that I didn’t mind playing for hours, on one that had a good story and whatnot.
My list was small. I was tempted with Kingdom Hearts III, but some of the final challenges still elude me, and I’d need to start over from scratch to have a shot. I debated saving an Artifex Mundi Hidden Picture game, but a two hour game just didn’t seem to fit the bill. I thought about one of the indie darlings of the industry, but I mostly wanted something from the heart.
And then I remembered something. When last year’s LEGO game was released, it came out with an unprecedented FOUR trophy lists, for four different regions: US, UK, Asia, and Japan. I’d played the US version before, but I still had three more opportunities.
And besides, LEGO DC Super-Villains was my 100 anyways. Why not let the EU version get my 150.
So, I booted up my EU account (RememUK), bought the game for more than I paid release day here in the US, and started to blast through. I finished tonight, almost in tears, because of how much I love the game (and having some of my favorite original voice actors back!).
There were a few roadblocks in my way before today. First, I completely miscounted and almost finished too soon. Then I got a job, and my (few) hours have been all over the place.
But I don’t care. I did it. Almost exactly as I planned it. Now I can get back to my regularly scheduled trophy gathering with P5 and replaying KHIII and being all around happy.
Onward to 200.
